Privacy Policy

Effective July 5, 2026

Briefcase exists to keep the things you save organized — not to collect data about you. This page explains what the Briefcase Android app and briefcaseapp.net collect, why, and what control you have.

What we collect

Briefcase collects only what it needs to organize and sync the things you save.

Account information — when you sign in with Google or email, we receive your email address, display name and profile photo through Firebase Authentication.
Content you save — links, notes, images, PDFs, videos and other files you add to collections, along with metadata such as titles, previews and your reading or watch progress.
Purchase state — if you subscribe to Briefcase Premium, Google Play processes the payment and we store only your subscription status. We never see your payment details.
Device integrity signals — to protect our backend from abuse, the app uses Google Play Integrity to verify it is a genuine, unmodified copy of Briefcase running on a genuine Android device. This check is handled by Google and does not identify you personally.
Crash and performance data — to keep the app stable and fast, we use Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Performance Monitoring to collect crash reports, diagnostics (such as device model, OS version and app state at the time of a crash) and performance metrics (such as startup time and network latency). This data is processed by Google on our behalf and is not used to identify you.

How we use your data

To store and sync your collections across sign-ins, using Google Firebase (Firestore and Cloud Storage).
To generate titles, summaries, previews and category suggestions for content you save, some saved content is processed by Google's AI services (Vertex AI). This content is not used to train models.
To fetch page and product metadata (titles, images, prices) for links you save.
To verify Premium subscriptions with Google Play.
We do not sell your data, show ads or share your content with third parties beyond the service providers listed here.

Sharing

Your collections are private by default. If you choose to share a collection, anyone with the share link can view the items in it. You can stop sharing at any time, which invalidates the link.

Where your data lives

Your data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure (Firebase) and protected by security rules that restrict access to your account. App preferences and biometric lock settings stay on your device and are never uploaded.

Data retention & deletion

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. You can delete individual items or collections at any time from the app. Deleting your account removes your content, files and account data from our systems.

To request account deletion, use the option in the app's settings or contact us at dev@gnowee.in.

Children

Briefcase is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above. Significant changes will be highlighted in the app.
